Better Future Program

Building a better future worldwide

who are We?

Founded by Reagan Peters-Roussell (she/they), Better Future Program (BFP) is a 501(c)(3) youth-run nonprofit headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, indigenously known as Bulbancha on Chahta Yakni and Chitimacha land. Learn more about our Indigenous history.

Our mission is to build a better and brighter global future for marginalized youth through education, awareness, and unity.

Since 2016, our team has been dedicated to educating the masses on various academic subjects, mental health, and most importantly, social injustices that affect today's youth. We even offer over 3,000 free novels, movies, podcasts, and more just to fulfill this goal.

Through our outreach on Instagram, Tumblr, and now Twitter @bfpnola, BFP has gained an international community ranging from the U.K. to Brazil and even to Indonesia and Malaysia. We are so proud to call them our family.

FAQ

What inspired the creation of better future program?
Better Future Program started as just a mere idea in 2016 when a student from Lake Forest Charter Elementary was pondering ways in which to create healthy food accessibility. The student, known professionally as Reagan A. Peters-Roussell or simply Reaux  (she/they), realized that there was more to this world than just providing students with healthy recipes. She researched day and night only to discover concepts such as redlining and how racism could even affect what food was available to their area. Using these discoveries as fuel to change the world, Reaux decided to start Better Future Program to educate others on those same ideas they had learned about.
How can we access better future program's blog, bfpnola?
BFPnola can be accessed on our Linktr.ee through Instagram, Tumblr, and now Twitter.
How can we be ensured that Better Future Program's information is accurate?
An immense amount of research goes into each and every single one of our posts. Not only this, but both experts and marginalized individuals who live the very experiences we discuss are consulted for accuracy and sensitivity. Sources are listed throughout all of our posts as well.
what are better future program's core values?
BFP promotes accessibility, unity, honesty, and gratitude. "Accessibility" means that all of the information we release is able to be accessed on not only multiple platforms, but more importantly, by people of all varying abilities. "Unity" represents BFP's goal of bringing together marginalized individuals to fight for their collective liberation. "Honesty" means that BFP will always state its true intentions, own up to its mistakes, and continuously improve to create a better future for all. Lastly, "gratitude" represents our monumental thankfulness for our community. Undoubtedly, BFP would not stand where it is today without the help of our hundreds of supporters.
Can we submit a post to be made on BFPNOLA?
Yes, of course, as long as it's factual and doesn't promote bigoted or exclusionary concepts! Feel free to go to our Submissions page for more information or send us an ask on Tumblr.
Can i share posts made on BFPNOLA onto other sites?
We actually don't mind as long as credit to Better Future Program and our blog BFPnola is given. Please do not plagiarize our content. You would be ripping off the work of many hardworking youth researchers, graphic designers, image description writers, and various other volunteers. We trust all of our supporters to abide by our core values when sharing our posts!
Why does bEtter future program provide over 3,000 resources free of charge?
BFP acknowledges that in the world we currently live in, everything is monetized and capitalized off of. We have to ask ourselves, "How can anyone learn or better themselves when all the necessary materials are behind a paywall?" The answer is that people can't. Not everyone can afford such prices and to assume such is a perspective of privilege. With accessibility being one of our core values, BFP created its social justice, mental health, and academic resource documents for everyone to use! For more information as to what these documents contain, please visit our Liberation Library!
How can we contribute?
BFP is always looking for new volunteers! We currently have dozens of youth leadership roles available for marginalized individuals around the world to apply for, both remotely and in-person. Here are our role descriptions and duties. Please visit our Staff Application page to apply. And if you don't want to hold as many responsibilities? Just sign up to be a general volunteer and help out with specific projects as they are developed! Thank you for your continued interest in supporting our organization! We couldn't do this with you.

You can also donate to help support our advocacy workshops and Liberation Library. Any amount is appreciated!
what does better future program's logo represent?
BFP’s original, rudimentary logo back in 2016 was a globe. Taking from that idea, Reagan Peters-Roussell (she/they), Better Future Program's founder, started with the colors blue and green, that of water and earth, both life-supporting forces in our world. And after hearing a speech from Palestinian and Muslim activist Linda Sarsour at the American Civil Liberty Union (ACLU)’s Advocacy Institute, she decided to implement Ms. Sarsour’s idea of “unity is not uniformity.” That’s where the overlapping stripes and shapes come in.

We, as both activists and community members, can come together as life-supporting forces, just like water and earth, without erasing our differences. We, too, can make a change in this world without erasing who we are, our history, and our culture.
