What inspired the creation of better future program?
Better Future Program was born out of a powerful spark of inspiration in 2016. It all started with a young visionary from Lake Forest Charter Elementary who wanted to make a difference in the world. Meet Reaux Peters-Roussell (she/they), a force to be reckoned with!
Reaux realized that creating healthy food accessibility was just the tip of the iceberg. They delved deep into research, uncovering eye-opening concepts like redlining and the profound impact of racism on communities, even when it came to something as basic as access to nutritious food. Armed with this newfound knowledge, Reaux felt an irresistible call to take action and ignite change on a larger scale.
And thus, Better Future Program was born—a dynamic platform that goes beyond healthy recipes. Reaux's mission became clear: to empower and educate others about the systemic issues they had uncovered. It was time to shine a light on the interconnectedness of social justice, equity, and well-being.
Since then, Better Future Program has grown into a powerful force for transformation. It's a movement that not only educates but also inspires, uplifts, and brings people together from all walks of life. Through their tireless efforts, Reaux and her incredible BFP family have fostered a community of changemakers who are determined to challenge the status quo and create a future that is better, fairer, and more inclusive for all.
So, join us on this empowering journey. Let's rewrite the narratives, break down barriers, and unleash the potential of every individual. Together, we can create a future where every voice is heard, every person is valued, and true justice prevails. The world is waiting for us to make our mark, and with Better Future Program, we're ready to make an impact that will resonate for generations to come.

what are better future program's core values?
BFP promotes the following core values as guiding principles in our behavior and decision-making:
Youth-Centricity → As a youth-run organization, we center the voices, priorities, and well-being of marginalized youth globally in every decision we make and action we take
Self-Liberation → All volunteers should be at the forefront of their own liberation. Allies are meant to uplift, not overstep
Transparency → We willingly share information pertaining to all BFP-related actions and intentions, both successes and failures, so as to remain open and honest
Accountability → We hold ourselves and one another responsible for meeting expectations set by our organization, including tasks as well as behavior, with an eye to fairness regarding capabilities and knowledge
Horizontality → We value the decision-making abilities of our volunteers and thus, we wish to foster power alongside one another rather than over each other
Community → We value the impact of a shared story (e.g. location, political alignment, racial identity), collaboration, and an effective support system
Intersectionality → We recognize how various aspects of a person's social and political identities combine to create different modes of discrimination and privilege

Why does bEtter future program provide over 3,000 resources free of charge?
BFP believes in the power of knowledge and the transformative potential it holds for individuals and communities. We recognize that in today's world, many resources and educational materials are inaccessible due to financial barriers. This reality hinders people's ability to learn, grow, and improve their circumstances.
At Better Future Program, we are committed to breaking down these barriers and promoting inclusivity. We firmly believe that access to information should not be determined by one's financial means. That's why we provide over 3,000 resources free of charge through our social justice, mental health, and academic Notion documents.
By offering these resources at no cost, we aim to level the playing field and ensure that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, can access valuable knowledge. We believe that education should be a right, not a privilege reserved for a select few.
Our Liberation Library is a treasure trove of information, covering a wide range of topics that are crucial for personal growth, understanding social justice issues, nurturing mental well-being, and enhancing academic pursuits. We invite you to explore the library and discover the wealth of resources available to empower and educate yourself.
Together, we can break down barriers, promote accessibility, and build a better future for all.
How can we contribute?
UPDATE: We are no longer offering volunteer opportunities or accepting donations. Thank you so much for your interest, though!
what does better future program's logo represent?
BFP's logo embodies a profound symbolism that resonates with our mission and values. Initially, our logo featured a simple globe, representing our global perspective and interconnectedness. From there, Reaux Peters-Roussell (she/they), the visionary behind Better Future Program, drew inspiration.
Incorporating the colors of blue and green, reminiscent of the nurturing elements of water and earth, we embraced the fundamental forces that sustain life on our planet. However, it was during a transformative moment, listening to the inspiring words of Palestinian and Muslim activist Linda Sarsour at the ACLU's Advocacy Institute, that our logo took on a deeper significance.
Embracing Sarsour's profound idea of "unity is not uniformity," our logo evolved with overlapping stripes and shapes. These overlapping elements symbolize our collective power and resilience as activists and community members. They embody the notion that we can come together, just like water and earth, as life-supporting forces, without erasing our unique identities, histories, and cultures.
Our logo speaks volumes about our commitment to unity, diversity, and embracing our differences. It serves as a visual reminder that we can create meaningful change in the world while honoring and celebrating the rich tapestry of human experiences.
May our logo inspire us all to embark on this transformative journey, where we embrace our individuality while working together for a better future.
